Young Healthwatch have been talking to local young people across East Sussex, using deliberative engagement methods and exciting research methods co-designed by our team of young volunteers, to find out more about:

  • Young (16-17) People’s patient experience and feedback for the health system across Sussex
  • Young People’s fears, worries, concerns and suggestions for the East Sussex vaccination programme
  • Young People’s co-produced suggestions for methods to increase COVID-19 vaccination uptake among youth communities in East Sussex

Conclusions

Included in this report are the findings from our survey, outreach activities to local vaccination clinics, and co-production activities with a core group of ‘youth experts’.

Key topics explored, include:

  • motivations or barriers for attendance
  • the accessibility of vaccinations in schools and other settings
  • parental and child consent
  • information and communications

Recommendations

Our recommendations include youth-backed guidance for the youth work and education sectors, communications and engagement professionals, vaccinators, providers and the wider integrated care system (ICS), all centred on how best to increase uptake of COVID jabs among children and youth in our local communities.
