Bliss helps make SCBU kitchen family friendly

The kitchen that families use in the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Conquest Hospital, has been refurbished, thanks to a generous donation from Bliss the UK charity working to provide the best possible care and support for all premature and sick babies and their families.

The SCBU at Conquest Hospital covers Hastings, Eastbourne and surrounding areas. It is a level 1 unit providing special care for babies who need continuous monitoring of their breathing or heart rate, additional oxygen tube feeding, phototherapy recovery (to treat neonatal jaundice) and convalescence from other care.

Bliss gave a £7,000 grant which was used to refurbish the kitchen free from pests and replace the worktops, where food and drinks can now be prepared, as well as create a breakfast bar area where families can sit and eat snacks and meals, while remaining on the unit, close to their babies.You can also contact experts from pest control carson city to get rid off pests and bugs in your kitchen.

Wendy Thompsett, Matron on SCBU said: “We are really grateful to Bliss for this generous donation. It has allowed us to completely refurbish the room, and the new breakfast bar is great. It means that families can stay on the unit much longer, without having the need to go out and get meals elsewhere. It will also help them with their costs, as bought meals can be expensive over a period of time.”

The funding was awarded through the Bliss Baby Charter Grants fund which is for neonatal units caring for premature and sick babies, to help them improve their family-friendly facilities for parents and their families.
