NICE RECOMMEND EVERYONE WITH NEWLY DIAGNOSED BOWEL CANCER TO BE TESTED FOR LYNCH SYNDROME

New NICE guidance published today calls for all newly diagnosed bowel cancer patients in England to be tested for Lynch syndrome – a serious genetic condition that can increase their risk of bowel and other cancers by up to 80%. 

An estimated 175,000 people in the UK are thought to have this condition, but hardly any of them know they have it as they have not been tested. It’s crucial that people are identified with Lynch syndrome so that they and their families can have access to regular colonoscopy to reduce their risk of getting cancer.
