New Executive Chair of Sussex and East Surrey Sustainability Transformation Partnership (STP)

At the request of NHS Improvement and NHS England, Bob Alexander has been appointed as Chair of the Sussex and East Surrey STP. Bob will remain employed by NHS Improvement, but will be increasingly stepping back from many of his national responsibilities, enabling him to dedicate around three days per week to the STP to begin with.

Bob replaces Michael Wilson, CEO of Surrey and Sussex Healthcare Trust (SASH) as Chair of the STP. In the coming weeks, Bob will be meeting a range of STP partners and stakeholders.  A priority is to ensure that the necessary leadership, governance and infrastructure in place as the STP moves from a planning phase to delivery.

Bob is currently Executive Director of Resources/Deputy Chief Executive NHS Improvement (NHSI) and is also a member of the NHSI Board. Bob was previously Chief Executive of the NHS Trust Development Authority (TDA), the organisation which was responsible for providing leadership and support to NHS trusts and whose responsibilities transferred to NHS Improvement on 1 April 2016. Before this, he served as Director of Finance at TDA, having joined TDA at its beginning in 2012.

Prior to joining TDA, Bob was the Finance Director of NHS South of England and the Director of NHS Finance at the Department of Health from 2007. There he led on NHS financial policy and performance as well as being responsible for the national tariff programme and finance issues underpinning the Health Reform Programme. Bob re-entered the NHS as a strategic health authority (SHA) Finance Director from 2002 to 2007, first with Kent and Medway SHA, then with South East Coast SHA.

Previous to this he held senior financial positions in both the public and private sectors. He is CIPFA qualified.
