Healthwatch East Sussex’s host organisation, East Sussex Community Voice, is recruiting new Board members

East Sussex Community Voice (ESCV) CIC is a community interest company providing an independent voice on public services for the people of East Sussex. We are here to listen, understand the lived experiences and perceptions of people and to make sure policy makers, commissioners and providers improve services in a way that takes account of public views.

The largest ESCV contract is to deliver Healthwatch East Sussex as an independent voice for the people of East Sussex on health and social care services in the county. ESCV also hosts the East Sussex Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) Alliance and is a partner in the European ‘It takes a Village to Raise a Child’ (VRAC) project. In addition, ESCV is commissioned to deliver smaller scale public engagement projects across a range of topics.

We are now looking for new non-executive directors to join the ESCV Board.

Previous Board experience is not essential. We welcome applications from people of all ages and backgrounds who live in East Sussex. Our existing Board of four members is currently under-represented by women, people from ethnically diverse communities and young people. All applicants should have an interest in and knowledge of public engagement and public services. Areas of expertise we would especially like to strengthen on our Board are business development and human resources.

Board members are required to attend quarterly board meetings, take part in appropriate sub-committees, become involved with our team of volunteers and work with the Executive Director and staff members when required. Meetings take place both in person, usually in Eastbourne and online via Zoom or Teams. Board members are also required to spend time reading reports and emails in between meetings.

As well as being extremely rewarding and impactful, being an ESCV board member is also a great personal and professional development opportunity. An honorarium payment of £1,200 per annum is paid quarterly as are expenses. Training and support are provided to meet new Board members’ needs.

More information including how to apply can be found on the ESCV website by click here.

If you prefer you may telephone 01323 403590 to request a hard copy to be sent by post.

For an informal discussion about the role please email Keith Stevens the ESCV Chair at keithbd.stevens@btinternet.com to arrange a time.

Closing date for applications is midnight on Monday 19th September 2022

Interviews will take place in October or November 2022
