East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has responded to reports of swine flu at the Conquest Hospital, Tina Lloyd Assistant Director of Infection Prevention & Control said:

“Influenza is circulating in the local community and a number of cases are being reported across the country. We have seen patients admitted unwell with influenza and currently have 4 patients isolated within the hospital being treated for influenza A (H1N1). This strain of influenza is now circulating each year and is now considered a normal seasonal flu strain, which is covered by the annual seasonal flu vaccine.

We expect to see cases of Influenza admitted to hospital at this time of year. We remain vigilant and do everything we can to prevent spreading the flu to vulnerable patients in our care.”
