National Lockdown: Stay at Home

January 6, 2021

On the 5th January the UK entered a new national lockdown as a response to the rapidly rising numbers of Coronavirus cases.

This will help to reduce the spread of the virus and protect the ability of the NHS to treat those who are infected.

The full details of this lockdown, including what you can and cannot do, are available here.

You should now stay at home

The only reasons for permitted for you to leave your home are:

  • Shop for necessities
  • To go to work, but only if you cannot from home
  • Exercise (once a day)
  • Meet your support or childcare bubble
  • Seek medical assistance
  • Attend education or childcare

Colleges, primary and secondary schools will remain open only for vulnerable children and the children of critical workers. All other children will learn remotely until February half term. Early years settings remain open.

If you are clinically extremely vulnerable you should begin shielding, only going out for medical appointments, exercise or if it is essential. You should not attend work.

If you do leave home for a permitted reason, you should always stay local. This means stay in the village, town, or part of the city where you live.
