How Will Tier Two Affect You?

November 27, 2020

Today the Government announced that East Sussex will be moving into Tier 2 local restrictions from Wednesday 2nd December.

Tier 2 is classified as ‘high risk’, placing East Sussex in the middle of three tiers of alert for coronavirus. It recognises that virus rates are rising here but are still lower than in many parts of England. Much of the South East, including West Sussex and Brighton & Hove, will also have Tier 2 restrictions but Kent and Medway will have stricter Tier 3 rules.

What does this mean for you?

Tier 2 restrictions are for areas with a higher or rapidly rising level of infections, where some additional restrictions need to be in place.

This means:

· you must not socialise with anyone you do not live with or who is not in your support bubble in any indoor setting, whether at home or in a public place

· you must not socialise in a group of more than 6 people outside, including in a garden or a public space – this is called the ‘rule of 6’

However, there are exceptions to these Tier 2 restrictions where appropriate safeguards are in place:

· businesses and entertainment venues can open, in a COVID-Secure manner, other than those which remain closed by law, such as nightclubs

· organised outdoor sport, physical activity and exercise classes can continue

· places of worship remain open but you must not socialise with people from outside your household or support bubble while indoors, unless a legal exemption applies

· weddings and funerals can go ahead with restrictions on numbers of attendees
