New Medical Director

Dr David Walker has taken up his new role as Medical Director at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.

Dr Walker is an experienced and much respected Consultant Cardiologist. He is currently Vice President British Cardiovascular Society and a member of the Board of the ACCA at the European Society of Cardiology.  He was the national clinical lead for heart failure 2007-13.

Dr Adrian Bull ESHT Chief Executive said: “On behalf of the Trust I am delighted to welcome Dr David Walker as Medical Director. I am confident he will make a positive impact to our medical and clinical teams across the organisation to help drive up and sustain high standards of care and optimum outcomes for our patients.”

The Medical Director is the most senior medical position in an NHS Trust providing clinical leadership.  The Trust’s Medical Director also provides the link between all doctors and the Board to drive forward continued improvements in the quality of patient care and safety as well as overseeing the planning of the Trust’s medical workforce to deliver better access to care.

The Trust employs around 6600 staff across its hospitals and community services with a total medical workforce of 568, including 228 Consultants, 101 SAS Doctors 89 Foundation Trainee Doctors and 150 Specialty Registrar Trainee Doctors.
