New Non-Executive Directors for ESHT

The NHS Trust Development Authority (NHS TDA) has confirmed the appointment of Miranda Kavanagh as a Non-Executive Director and Jackie Churchward-Cardiff as a Designate Non-Executive Director of East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.  Miranda replaces Professor Jon Cohen on the board who left last month to take up a Non-Executive Directors post at King’s College Healthcare NHS Trust.

Anne Eden, Director at the NHS Trust Development Authority said: “A strong board is crucial for any NHS Trust to truly deliver excellence to patients and these appointments are an important step toward East Sussex Healthcare coming out of special measures.

“There isn’t going to be an easy or a quick fix to the challenges the Trust faces but I am confident that we can build on this, further strengthen the leadership at the Trust in the coming weeks and support their on-going work to deliver improvements for patients in East Sussex.”

Miranda Kavanagh is currently Executive Director of Evidence at the Environment Agency.  She lives in Uckfield and has had a lifelong interest in healthcare having previously work at senior level in the Healthcare Commission, the predecessor body of the Care Quality Commission, and within the pharmaceutical industry working for Pfizer UK. She is an experienced strategic leader with an extensive understanding of communications and engagement, marketing communications and public affairs.

Jackie Churchward-Cardiff has extensive experience of healthcare having worked in both the private and public sector. She lives in Mayfield and was a qualified nurse. Jackie worked in the NHS for 22 years with her last position being Director of Operations at Barts and Royal London NHS Trust. She is strongly committed to providing safe and effective services and currently works for her own healthcare consultancy company.

Non-executive appointments to NHS Trusts made by the NHS TDA are subject to the Code of Practice of the Commissioner for Public Appointments.  Miranda Kavanagh has been appointed from 9th November 2015 to 8th November 2017 and Jackie Churchward-Cardiff been appointed from 1st December 2015 to 30th November 2017. Both are entitled to receive a remuneration of £6,157 per annum.  Neither have declared any political activity in the last five years.
