Ophthalmology Open Day – Great Success

June 29, 2016

The Ophthalmology Day Unit at Bexhill Hospital opened its doors for the public to see behind the scenes of the unit that operates on people’s eyes. Over 100 people attended the event.

Staff from the eye day unit were available to guide people through the patient’s surgical journey and answer their questions.  Visitors were able to handle the surgical instruments; look down the operating microscope and see other surgical machines working. They were also able to watch a video on cataract surgery.

Lesley Carter, Unit Matron said “It was an amazing afternoon; we had over 100 people through the unit. The feedback we received was very positive and everyone found it very interesting. Staff were praised for their helpfulness. There was an overall response that people felt it would not make them afraid to have surgery now, which is great.”
