excellent care that saved my life

July 4, 2019
I was involved in a car collision in December 2016 which resulted in an ambulance taking me to the Royal Sussex with life threatening injuries. I was cared for by an excellent consultant and he and his team 'saved my life' after performing extensive bowl and pelvis surgery.

Mixed experience after breaking my ankle

A & E and general surgery and orthopaedic out patient
January 25, 2019
A & E was great - no wait to be triaged or to see a doctor and although was a wait for treatment as patients with greater clinical need, staff were great. My operation was cancelled after waiting all day on a trolley in theatre admissions which was an awful experience. On day of re-arranged operation everything was excellent - taken down to the operating theatre as first patient of day, staff were really kind. Didn't receive information for follow-up wound check. The Appointments Centre didn't respond to emails other admin staff didn't phone back etc. Eventually, got through (after two days of trying) to right place and got an appointment. Outpatient appointment was on time and was good.

Waiting time in A and E

Accident and emergency services
August 20, 2018
My mother got admitted from her home in Hove to the Royal Sussex by her GP on Thursday 16th August.
She was taken by ambulance to the A and E department and was admitted to the hospital at approx 14:45.
From 14:45 she was on the ambulance bed in a corridor, until a cubicle became available in A and E at approx 17:00. She was then in the cubicle in A and E until 02:00 the following day, when she was admitted to a ward.
During the time she was in A and E, her blood pressure and temperature was checked, but not her blood sugar (she is diabetic), until I mentioned this to the nurse at approx 20:45.
She was not seen by a doctor until 22:00 when they decided to admit her and not moved to the ward until 02:00

Brought in to A&E and then onto cardiac dept

Cardiology

On May Bank Holiday my husband was rushed in with chest pains and sweating. Paramedics were terrific and sent information ahead of arrival at A&E so doctors were ready to treat him immediately. He had all kinds of tests and scans and they found he had a completely blocked artery which required a stent to be put in and that was done within two hours of arrival.

A few times I have been treated there, every health professional I came across was so kind. I felt safe under their care. Clean environment. Didn't have much of a choice with Food as I was on fat free diet.

Bowel screening - history in family x 2 cases. Screened every 3 years - recent one due to age "suggested at my age do you really want to put yourself through it"???

Blue light to RSC

July 26, 2016
Following the day after surgery, I started to bleed internally. Blue light to RSC - in hospital for 10 days. I was on a special diet, and banana's were the only safe food as allergic to flour.
