staff reaction to a fire alarm was neglige
Minor injuries unit
November 2, 2022
I was waiting for treatment and the fire alarm went off at approximately 13.10. When the fire alarm sounds ALL staff should stop what they are doing and immediately evacuate the building. This didn't happen. They stayed in the treatment rooms. It was well over a minute before we saw any staff in the waiting room. Patients were asking if it was a fire alarm, was it a false alarm, were they testing the alarms. We eventually were asked to evacuate. No one went to the Assembly Point. People were waiting under the front porch area. Staff should have directed patients both on evacuation and where to assemble. Staff need training. Very bad experience. Patients need to feel safe in a hospital.
Visited in summer 2021 for treatment.

Brought a fellow cyclist in after a crash. He was seen rapidly and temporarily fixed (complex fractures requiring surgery elsewhere). Quickly seen, good feedback and concern for getting the new patient home. Notes already in the next hospital. Clean with good covid control equipment and practices. Friendly, welcoming and concerned staff. Sadly, he is unable to type this feedback himself for the next 6 weeks.

Uckfield MIU is a hidden gem - it's such a shame not everybody knows about it

On arrival nurse said this was disruptive even though patient was in sideroom before main ward.
Sideroom had no chairs. Orientation clock wrong. Patients name on board spelt incorrectly.

I thought I might have broken my toe, so headed down to the MIU.
It was so quiet, which meant I was seen immediately. The staff were friendly, got my x-ray arranged, and sorted out my follow up visit to the Eastbourne DGH fracture clinic.

I had cut my thumb rather badly

I had cut my thumb rather badly and immediately went to The Uckfield minor injuries department, I was seen relatively quickly. The nurses on duty cleaned my wound and assessed the cut. They decided to steri strip the would. I didn't feel happy that it was adequate treatment but put my trust in their decision. However 2 days later I was still feeling pins and needles and a numbness in the area of the wound. I went back and a new set of nurses were on duty. They reassessed the still leaking wound and immediately sent photos over to east Grinstead specialist department. They tested my nerves and thought I had damaged them. I was referred over to East Grinstead, had 2 operations on the thumb!!
I felt let down initially by the staff on duty, it was a clearly deep cut that needed attention..
