Waited 5 hours

Accident and emergency services
October 6, 2015
78 year old Father admitted by ambulance - he waited 5 hours to see a Dr who was so rude to him.

He had been unable to move at home, when medics brought him in. They were brilliant, but A&E Dr treated him with no respect or dignity and sent him home.

2 experiences of poor bone setting skills.

1 - 2014 - broke left wrist, poor alignment resulted in hand looking "as if it's been put on wrong"

2 - June 2015, broke little finger - set so that it is permanently completely flexed, GP has referred for further treatment but still awaiting appointment

I arrived at the a&e department at 5.15 on a friday after almost cutting the end of my finger off on a lawn mower and was seen very soon after by the triarge nurse, who kindly redressed my wound and gave me pain relief. I felt a bit ignored after everyone who was in the waiting room came and went, including a few others that arrived after me. Most, in my opinion appeared to have minor injuries. Eventually around 8.30 i was called in and after removing the 'wrong' dressing applied by the nurse (it had stuck to the wound and had to be soaked off) i was assessed. There was talk of me going to East Grinstead as that is where the specialist was, but in the end consultant decided to email some photos to them direct, then the decision was made to treat it in house. The pain relief etc was all provided and i can not complain about not being looked after, as i felt very little of what they were doing with my finger. Although, when the decision was made to sew me back up, the wound was cleaned and equipment brought around to carry out the necessary work. Then we were moved to a ward as they needed the assessment room and i was left to wait......and wait......i was sitting there with the top of my finger hanging off for 1 1/2hours as the only person who had the skill to reattach my finger had gone home!! Thankfully he returned, my finger was stitched up and the A&E nurse done an excellent job carefully dressing the wound - made more difficult by the swelling and my endless facial expressions more akin to wallace and gromit. The follow up appointments have so gone with no issues, but all that have dressed the wound have struggled. Overall i cant complain about the service, as without it i wouldnt have my finger back, i just feel the intial service was not really up to sratch.

We went to the conquest at 8.45am and we were out by 11am. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and I felt comfortable and cared for.

Husband is having a hip replacement, the surgeon is great, very clean

Never given Macmillan nurse

Cancer services

Never given a Macmillan nurse - I refused chemo as no one to care for me whilst ill and was never asked if I had support at home

Staff attitude - lack of compassion, should train in understanding patients

Staff brilliant, waiting time needs some work

I had gone to A&E for a head injury after calling 111 as i wasn't sure about the symptoms i had were normal. An ambulance crew checked me over before taking me to Conquest. All staff i came into contact with were lovely, even though it was quite a long wait, nearly 2 hours in the afternoon. It was a relaxed atmosphere in the waiting room. I witnessed a triage nurse taking a few mins to give a little extra assistance to an elderly gentleman, was a joy to witness this care.

Maternity experience

August 11, 2015
Having given birth at both Eastbourne before the closure and Hastings conquest after I would pick Hastings over and over again. I received a hundred percent better care and treatment on the delivery suite than I did at Eastbourne four years ago. I was looked after to the upmost despite a busy ward. Only criticism would be the cleanliness of the ward itself after being transferred from the delivery suite into a ward.
