The staff were amazing
Maternity
February 24, 2016
During my labour and after the staff were very welcoming and considerate of both mine and my newborns needs. They were very helpful but also gave me the space that I needed. The hospital it's self was accommodating to my needs as well.
Extremely understaffed!
February 23, 2016
Was asked to go to the maternity ward at 11pm last night.
I was greeted in a very abrupt manner in Murray Ward, and felt a little uncomfortable.
Upon arrival, I could see that the unit was extremely busy. Staff were rushing around, nobody knew what was really going on and the staff kept asking the same questions to myself and other patients because they couldn't remember.
My blood pressure was taken in the waiting room due to no beds being available.
I was finally given a bed 1 hour after arriving. It was then a further 25 minutes wait until a midwife actually came and saw me.
I was then put on to a CTG machine shortly after. There was a delay in this because one of the machines wasn't working properly.
Over an hour went past and I was still on the machine, I felt like the staff had totally forgot about me.
My CTG results came back fine, and the midwife then called for the Dr to come down. This took over 50 minutes.
I finally left Murray Ward at 3.45am, after a wait of nearly 40 minutes to be discharged.
It is disgusting that staff have to work in an intense environment, with lack of staff and no support.
One day something serious will happen and that will be due to lack of staff awareness because they don't know if they're coming or going!

General feedback

General feedback with regards to being admitted over the weekend - not good that consultants aren't available if you are admitted. Receive a lower level of service.
it should be a 7 day week continuous/high level standard of care available to all

Disappointing visit - again!
Maternity

After a pleasant experience with my additional scan today which was booked in via a midwife, I had to visit Murray ward to give them the photo for their records.
Everything was fine until I walked through the door.
I was told to sit down in the waiting area. 1 hour went by and I still hadn't been seen. I asked if I could pop out to get a drink and was told not to as the Dr wouldn't be too much longer.
Another hour went past and I still hadn't been seen - eventually I was called.
I was disgusted that I wasn't even invited in to a private room, but was spoken to at the waiting room door, with everybody listening.
I'm anxious enough as it is - this really didn't help.
It's such a shame that this is the service being delivered. No wonder why the trust is in special measures!

Both midwives and the team on duty on 04.02.16 were great they made my experience of labour and child birth relaxed and comfortable, they were approachable caring and very supportive throughout the entire day we are so grateful
More staff needed
Maternity

Visited Murray ward after phoning the 24 hour maternity line.
The care I received was good, however the lack of staff made things difficult.
Hardly any staff on the ward and staff getting confused with who they've already seen and haven't.
The midwives work so hard but they really do need more support from the hospital trust.

I have greatest respect and gratitude
February 4, 2016
Over the past 15 years I have had 3 joint replacement ops, 6 facial ops, 2 emergencies (Septacaemia and hernia)
I have the greatest respect and gratitude for all the doctors who cared for and treated me.
I receive regular follow up treatment - a great service for which I am most grateful to all concerned.
My only criticism is that, on a few occasions, the post op nursing care has not been as good - perhaps there are too many "agency" nurses with no loyalty to one hospital.

Delayed for another week
Dermatology

Appointment for minor surgery was attended, but the procedure delayed for another week. I should have been informed before leaving home!
I hope the follow up is as well organised
Gastrointestinal and Liver services
February 4, 2016
I visited the Conquest for a colonoscopy as a day case. I cannot imagine how the service and care could have been bettered, except that I prefer chocolate biscuits to plain.
I hope the follow up is as well organised
