Ophthalmology

I visited the hospital twice for wye checks. On both occasions the staff were great: professional, efficient and informative. On the second visit the doctor was clear in his explanations..

My son recently attended the unit for a diagnostic investigation. The whole experience was done well from start to finish. All staff were pleasant, approachable and efficient. Procedure timings were punctual. We were shown exactly where to go, what to do and what to expect. It seemed to us that there was a good atmosphere in the unit, teamwork and pride in service delivery. Thanks to everyone.

My husband had a cataract operation at the Eastbourne DGH last year. I was so impressed with the friendly and professional attitude that was demonstrated. He had his second eye operated on and again, amazing team. The anesthetist and the nursing staff and all the team helped to make this a 5 star experience. As I also work for the trust I wanted to express that kindness, compassion and professionalism is what patients value. Keep up the good work under the new chief exec.

From A & E to the CCU, I have nothing but praise for all the staff that attended to me. All so caring and professional. I was truly treated like a Queen which has more meaning when you are Senior Citizen

Patient admitted with high blood glucose probably caused by steroids. Mid antibiotic course which Drs failed to prescribe for their stay. Next day declared fit for discharge, on arrival in the evening, usual delay for tttas (take home medication), clearly unwell when taken home. When home gave Furusomide and some improvement. Pulse slightly irregular. Pressure areas - heel very sore and tender, black heel developed within a few days, grade 3 damage to both buttocks, which has taken 8 weeks to heal. GP saw next day, AF diagnosed and medicines reviewed, different antibiotic prescribed and started on Digoxin. Very poorly for several days, thought they were going to die but got great support from the district nurses and hospice. Also when discharged clearly dehydrated and pressure damage to sacrum and heel. Very disappointed with service.
Very quick and easy service

Eye department - the check in was very quick and easy, polite lady behind the desk. Nurse who took me to different rooms allowed me to walk at my pace and waited with me. Huge improvement from last visit.
Car Parking

Long queues at the car park machine in the main area. Machines not accepting the new £5 notes - people having to leave the queue to go into the hospital shop for change - then rejoin the end of a long queue! Not acceptable, particularly for the elderly. New machine required!
Poor
Medical Records and PALS

In March 2016 my consultant requested copy of notes from a knee operation carried out in 1978. To to date I have asked 4 times via PALS and nothing has been received. I need 2 x knee replacements but due to operation done in 1978 and complications I remember these notes are important to my current surgeon.
