Great appointment visit, great staff

Ophthalmology
August 23, 2016
Three cheers for Eastbourne being part of the Butterfly scheme - you made my life as a carer SO much easier today - thank you
Took mum to opthalmology for appointment, mentioned to the Sister that mum has mixed dementia and they immediately 'got it' (and then explained the Butterfly scheme which I had never heard of - ALL hospitals need this)

The staff had lovely happy, welcoming dispositions, lots of smiles (not just for me and mum but to ALL patients)
Liked that the consultants came out and called their own patients
All staff introduced themselves and greeted all their patients with a smile

Efficient and helpful

Even the main hospital outpatients receptionists were lovely

And the PaLs and the cafe staff - lovely

Much improved hospital from when I last visited it many years ago

I can't praise the staff enough

Cardiology

I had been feeling unwell and couldn't breathe or walk very far without stopping.

I had my pacemaker checked and the battery was low, within a week I was in hospital and had a new one fitted. I now feel wonderful, I walk the whole length of the seafront.

Wonderfull attention by all at the hospital - I can't praise them enough.

Ophthalmology
August 12, 2016
I had an appointment for field vision test at 11 o clock. Arrived at 10.25 and called in at 10.30. Test concluded and free to leave at 10.40. So no car park charge!

Waiting times

July 27, 2016
My wheelchair bound wife had an appointment for 10.50am. We eventually were called in at 12.10. My wife was in some discomfort after having to sit in the wheelchair for this amount of time. I feel this is very poor service for a supposedly modern country.

Information in large print

July 27, 2016
I keep asking for my information to be in large print due to eye sight problems. The staff do not know how to print off large print from the computer. It's taken years to get through to people

Admitted for 1 week

I was in hospital as I had a cyst removed. I was admitted for 1 week. The staff and surgeon were very good and chatty. They explained my treatment well.

Multiple Sclerosis - No specialists

Neurology
July 23, 2016
There is no specialist for multiple sclerosis and patients are passed around from one neurologist to another as none seem to stay. At present I have no neurologist as they are again recruiting. Getting already prescribed drugs for MS is way too complicated. Once prescribed it then depends on secretaries actually getting round to dealing with the prescription which for some reason then has to go to the Conquest Hospital before going to BUPA Home Healthcare for them to deliver. Drugs are late or fail to arrive and that's when it is not BUPA's fault. BUPA have their own issues which just add to this stressful and unreliable debacle. From prescription to receipt of drugs, far too many people are involved and patients are left to worry if their next prescription will turn up. The drugs cannot be suddenly stopped. The lack of MS specialists locally mean patients are getting very little care indeed and MS nurses are having to bear the brunt which means they are not easy to contact. There is no feedback option on the Healthwatch website for multiple sclerosis care or MS nurses.

I had a number of tests and was told in January 2016 I needed an operation. On the list for 18weeks and I am still waiting

Waited 2/3 hours

July 23, 2016
I had a nose bleed which lasted 2 hours. I attended EDGH and waited 2/3 hours to see a doctor. Nose was bleeding on arrival. When I saw Doctor, it had stopped. He looked in to my eyes and did not spot I was severely anaemic. He said I would receive an appointment to visit ENT and to date it has not arrived.

Had several trips

July 22, 2016
I have recently had several trips to the DGH for heart problems and was treated superbly in the cardiac department and A&E, where I had cardioversions, a pacemaker fitted and in april an ablation. All successful and excellent treatment by doctors and nurses
