My Mum received an emergency eye appointment
unknown
December 21, 2015
On Tuesday 15th January 2015, my Mum who is 89 received a call to say, an emergency eye appointment had been made at the EDGH.
She is unable to walk and she has to rely on patient transport. None could be found for this day, but they could do it on Wednesday 16th. The hospital agreed to this and said they could see her at 1.50pm. I arrived to meet Mum at 1.30. Was was told to be ready at 11am, she however did not arrive at the hospital until 3.30-3.40. Very agitated for being kept waiting for so long, as the transport didn't arrive to pick her up.
She was treated very quickly and was ready to leave at 5pm to l return to Alfriston Court Nursing Home. We and several other patients were still waiting at 7.40. By this time, my Mum had gone without food, drink or a visit to the loo since 11am.
We were taken to the discharge lounge where tea and toast was provided. We were then told that transport could not be provided until 9. This meant that Mum was in her wheelchair for 10 hours. Her legs were swelling because she couldn't elevate them. She got home to no hot food at 9pm. The nursing and Dr care were 5 star however transport is nil.

I have found nothing but kindness

I have been attending the Conquest hospital and Eastbourne General since June 2015 and have found nothing but kindness and caring staff. I have written a couple of letters to the departments where I had treatment. I can only say thank you for all the care I have had at both hospitals.

We are very happy with the service and treatment we receive from Eastbourne District General Hospital.
We are well aware that this hospital has gone into special measures, but apart from far too long waiting times we are happy with the service.
Our experience has been that the staff are very caring and helpful. The only time we felt under valued was in the hands of a receptionist in the Oncology department.

I found a lump in my breast and was asked to attend hospital in a very speedy manner.
I am well satisfied with this but it took a long while to find a parking spot (I am disabled) and I found this very irksome.

I had my son there by cesarean and the staff helped me feel at ease when I was panicking about an emergency cesarean. They were really helpful after the birth when I couldn't even lift my son to give him a feed which was heartbreaking and frustrating.
10 weeks pregnant
Accident and emergency services

10 weeks pregnant, after spotting for 2 days I awoke at 11pm last Saturday night in a pool of blood. I decided to go to A and E. I went on my own as we have a young daughter who was in bed, and we thought if my husband stayed with her it would minimise disruption to her. We have little family support and hadn't told anyone about the pregnancy as still in first trimester. I arrived at approx 11.30 was seen by triage nurse within the hour, I then waited over 5 hours to see a Dr. Continuing to heavy bleed, sitting on a cold hard waiting room chair. When I eventually saw the Dr he said I should go to specialist ward at conquest in an ambulance. I am frustrated that I waited so long in horrible circumstances when the result was to be sent in an ambulance. Could the nurse not have spoken to the doctor and the decision to send in an ambulance happened sooner?

Haematology

June 2015, I was admitted to Eastbourne DGH and received excellent care and treatment.
My G.P referred me in mid July. I received an appointment for 9th September. I saw my GP again on 27th August. He said that he had put urgent on the referral. He also told my daughter when she asked if it was Cancer, that although he was not a hematologist it looked sinister.
