Experiences of Earwax Treatment in 2023/24
Between November 2023 and January 2024, our short survey asked people to share their experiences of seeking advice or treatment for an earwax problem in the last two years.
We wanted to learn about the effects of earwax build up on people’s physical and mental health, how clear and easy it was to obtain treatment and the experiences of different forms of treatment.
People were able to complete the survey online, in print or over the phone and 115 gave us their feedback.

Patients need to speak up about their health and social care experiences says Healthwatch
During June and July 2022, Healthwatch staff and volunteers undertook engagement ‘roadshows’, attending a number of community events and venues across East Sussex, often alongside our NHS colleagues.
We wanted to identify if health and care services are doing enough to listen to the public and patients, explore how they gather feedback and identify what could be improved so patients feel confident that their issues are heard and acted on. Our report sets out what people told us.
Returning to Kendal Court: An independent review of the experiences of people living at Kendal Court in Newhaven
During a two-week period in August 2021, Healthwatch East Sussex undertook semi-structured interviews with 28 of the 42 residents living at Kendal Court at that time.
Engagement focused on gathering views and experiences on five core themes:
1. Residents’ experiences of living at Kendal Court
2. Residents’ experiences of being placed and arriving at Kendal Court
3. Issues affecting residents – practical, economic, social and health related
4. How, when and where support or help was sought, provided or accessed
5. Any changes that residents felt would help improve their experience
Qualitative responses and residents’ narrative was recorded during the engagement
process, analysed against the themes above, and cross-cutting issues identified.
This research was a follow-up to an earlier review of residents experiences at Kendal
Court, also carried out by East Sussex Community Voice [The host body of Healthwatch
East Sussex] in 2018.
